Courtney LeBlanc is the author of Beautiful & Full of Monsters (forthcoming from Vegetarian Alcoholic Press), chapbooks All in the Family (Bottlecap Press) and The Violence Within (Flutter Press), and a Pushcart Prize nominee. Constellation
He pulls it out of his pocket, bright
and eager, extends his hand and drops
it into my open palm. A delicate
necklace with five tiny stars strung across
the chain. My smile outshines the galaxy,
You’ve given me my own constellation,
I say, stringing it around my neck, the gold stars falling
across my collar bones. He reaches out, lightly
fingering the stars. He closes his eyes,
makes a wish.
