Dark Promise

When the shadows
open their eyes
and whisper back,

when the black bird
flies into the window,
leaving behind a red mark—

Press your ear to
the cold wood.
Listen for the knock
beneath the floorboards.

When you call out
into the void,
begging for release,
you will receive
your answer.
